We hope all our Residents families had a very good Christmas and hope 2016 has started off with a bang.
We have some very exciting news to tell you about!
The detached house in our grounds has been undergoing extensive redecoration, as we intend to open a Day Centre.
This is to accommodate families still coping at home with a loved one suffering from Dementia but finding it increasingly stressful and possibly needing one
or two days break to recharge their batteries. We will offer a comprehensive service from 10-5 with food, entertainment and the usual personal care services. This will enable the family to relax and know that everything possible is being done to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their relation.
Long term, this might also make the transition from home care to being in a Care Home a little less traumatic, as they will already be familiar with the staff and facilities at Woodlands.
This will also benefit our residents, as they will be encouraged to enjoy the facilities in the Day Centre, and hopefully might feel they have had a day out!
We are very lucky to have two extremely creative and vivacious activity organisers, Sharon and Amy, who will supervise and initiate activities for all our residents, day or boarding.
We intend to also start a group for any family members who would like to be more involved. The group would possibly meet twice a year, for feedback and brainstorming ideas.
We currently have a small band of very resourceful volunteers, who give up their time to come in and share whatever skills they have, to enrich the days of the residents.
Gail is a very experienced craft expert with amazing embroidery and card making skills, who comes on a Thursday morning. Dipeka loves to reminisce with the residents and has brought in memory aids in the form of music and books. We are also very privileged to have Len and Ken, who regularly pop in to chat and play familiar sing along songs on the piano.
The students, who came in last summer are booked in to come again as they were so popular last year. The groups consist of drama, enterprise or photography students and culminated their Woodland experience by helping out at our summer barbecue.
We will be having our next summer barbecue on Saturday 9th July 2016. Everyone is invited so please keep the date in your diary.
We would like to thank all the families for the Christmas cards and presents sent in for the staff.
Andrew and all the Team.
P.S. We have just received Bon Marche vouchers offering a 20% discount. If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please ask us for a voucher.
This offer runs from 27th February to 6th March inclusive.
